Also, have now finally seen Meridian and end of season 5! Am halfway through season 6, and except for Abyss, don't care nearly as much for SG-1 minus Daniel. It is all about the Jack/Daniel relationship to me! Anyhoo, looking at my Ascension/Descension recs, apparently they're all descension fics. The only fics I've read about the ascension and/or adventures in glowiness have a really different take on it than canon, and while I read a lot of SG-1 AU, even descension AU, I actually like canon ascension too much to really get into different takes on it. *ponders my quirks* Expect a rambling e-mail at some point on season 5/6.

I think SG-1 minus Jack is infinitely worse, but that's me and I've probably said it before. But yes, I do believe that whether they are best friends or lovers or worst enemies or whatever the hell you think they are, the thing that makes the show great is Jack and Daniel together.

Please discuss your take on ascension stories. I haven't read much of it. What are the differences from canon? *listens attentively*

So, so not looking forward to SG-1 minus Jack. Story Nightcrawlers (Sam, Teal'c, Jonas, when Jack had Frozen virus, before implantation with Tok'ra) came across as an X-Files episode that wasn't as good as the X-Files. I think it's that Jack and Daniel are both such strong, quirky characters that they need each other to balance out and go home to do the wild thing after missions.

I think a lot of ascension fics were written before season 6, which is understandable, but now that I'm watching it... They mainly involve Daniel doing visitations to Jack at home, whether glowy or corporeal (like story you read the other day). I kinda like the fact that other than the little breeze in the hallway and Abyss, Daniel's been off doing his thing. To me, you can't have the incredible impact of Abyss if seeing Daniel isn't a surprise, and I LOVE that episode. Best of the bunch is (*looks around for it*) A Reason to Smile (http://www.area52hkh.net/ast/teand/smile01.php) / One Thousand, Seven Hundred and Twenty-Six (http://www.area52hkh.net/ast/teand/smile02.php). The main difference is that Daniel is gone for five years. For an angsty ascension AU, I do actually like Forever May Not Be Enough for My Love (http://www.thealphagate.com/stories/ForeverMayNotBeEnoughforMyLove.asp) with a very suicidal Jack. Hmm. Maybe i should add these to my recs page.
