"This can't go on. Cut the man some slack, Daniel. You know you've been headed in this direction for a long time. After all you've done for the SGC and this planet, the two of you deserve to give yourselves some space to find out where this new path could take you."
Daniel is staring like you've grown a second head.
"What about 'don't ask, don't tell?'"
"Frankly, I'm more concerned about what would happen if the two of you didn't work out. But the result couldn't be worse than the current situation."
Daniel is struggling. He's clearly uncomfortable talking to you about this. He's embarrassed and nervous. But he doesn't drop his eyes, even though you can tell he wishes he had pretended he wasn't home when you knocked on the door.
"And what about our working relationship?"
You laugh at this. The laugh starts as a chuckle, but the question reverberates around inside your skull until you are gaffawing, tears leaking from the corners of your eyes. You grope for the tissue box that is just too far down the coffee table for your to reach and Daniel snatches out a kleenex and hands it to you, looking vaguely concerned, but mostly blushing the most lovely shade of pink.
You sniff and snort and catch your breath, just as a knock comes at the door.
Daniel looks alarmed. You gesture for him to answer it as you get to your feet.
"I should be going, anyway."
He moves slowly towards the door, keeping an eye on you. You help him by tagging along. You really should be leaving.
Ah. It's Major Carter who's on the other side of the door. "General!" She looks horrified to see you. Flustered, she snaps to attention and salutes. You smile and wave her off and turn back to Daniel.
"Son, the two of you have been alone for a long time. I know this isn't exactly what you were expecting, but don't turn away from him. I know you want this as much as he does."
You give him your best kindly smile and then, giving Major Carter a vague acknowledgement, somewhere between a salute and a wave, you leave them both staring after you in confusion.
Heads up, people. I wrote this because it was fun and in my brain. You read it. Now pretend it never happened. Got that? It doesn't fit with where I'm going and it is not part of this series, really. Alternate reality version.
There will probably be more. Meanwhile, if you're interested, all my stories, in order, from one page. Also, my fiction recommendations.

Date: 2005-09-09 02:34 pm (UTC)It kind of drives me nuts when Hammond condones their relationship. It's my limit for my suspension of disbelief. ;)
But this one sort of worked because of how shocked Sam and Daniel are, too. *giggle*
