Aug. 22nd, 2005 08:04 pmFirstly, thank you to
cocoajava for making additional user pictures a reality! Yay! Now to figure out how to get a slashy gladiator manip with SB and VM's heads! *snickers* Fraternal Unit had the Photoshop going this weekend. He's AWESOME at it. It is like an extension of his BRAIN. Heh BrainofFU! *snickers more* Maybe he would paste their heads on for me...
And secondly, please note this picture...

Perhaps Daniel is standing in a hole.
Perhaps Jack is standing on a hillock.
Perhaps there is more height difference than www.imdb.com lets on.
Perhaps the horse is dead. *snickers more*
Perhaps I need to go to bed now. Yes. Bed. Yes.
EDIT: Perhaps it would be more polite to post behind the cut...
EDIT the SECOND: Look! The glasses! Why doesn't Daniel want to see Jack in this scene? Or perhaps he wants to see nothing but Jack? Jack is the center of his world and everything else is a blur of color without form...
EDIT the THIRD: Anybody but me ever notice how their uniforms have no personally identifying markers? Or have I just missed them? No names? No "Colonel on the uniform?"

After spending waaaaay too much time looking at the boys, I get the idea that RDA and MS are probably about the heights stated in their bios. Maybe MS is cheating upward 1/2" -- SOP on IMDB. I also get the idea that their characters are supposed to be about 3-4" apart in height. Jack is usually military posture and Daniel is usually a little slouchy (as here), and they probably stuck an inch or two of lift into RDA's boots. But they're still not a full head's difference in height. :-P
On to other obsessing ...
Edit 2) I will totally throw Convenient Glasses Vision (tm) out the window and go with "Jack is all Daniel wants to see." Good call. ;-)
Edit 3) They don't need IDs on the outside -- Daniel introduces everybody politely every planet they visit. As far as knowing whose laundry is whose, you just know that Jack, when not making sure Daniel eats regularly, rifles through his locker and neatly and lovingly writes Daniel's name on the inside label with a Sharpie pen. *hearts "mother hen" Jack*
Don't wanna go to bed. Am being haunted by a Stargate cliche!fic that I really don't have time to write. (Is it just me, or do Stargate slash fics run more towards a genre than most? I swear 90% of the stories share the same thematic elements.)
Cliches
Date: 2005-08-23 09:32 am (UTC)Um. Dunno about the cliche!fic. I have read a grand total of three Stargate things that were not my own thing.
'Cause, you know, it hits my reality squick really hard. No matter how obviously the scriptwriters think they are doing it, I just don't buy it.
*snickers*
So what are our Stargate themes? Did I get any?! :)
Re: Cliches
Date: 2005-08-23 06:09 pm (UTC)Themes -- First I have to say that Possession just seems more real than most of the fics out there. Most of the fics (as well a lot of the episodes, actually) feel kind like original Star Trek: team goes to planet, meets people/aliens, does x, y, z, learns the moral of the story -- and it's often a little cheesy. "Monster of the week"-ish.
I guess you do hit some of the themes. It's a first time-er, way more common than est. relationship stories. "Aliens made them do it" -- though this one just feels way different. There's the "one of them has been in love with the other for a long time but has been hiding it." And the Chinese take-out. Food seems to be a really big thing in the fandom -- pizza, Chinese, steak, Jack's barbecue, pie, Fruit Loops, Jack making sure Daniel eats, who's a good cook, who's not. It's like a fixation.
At least you bypassed the frottage and went straight to the fucking. Must be your Lotrips training. ;-) Seriously, I have never seen so much rubbing of two dicks together in any fandom. One of these days they'll start a freaking fire. And you haven't had them at SGC (yet) so you've bypassed all debriefing and infirmary themes. You've avoided all the soldiers vs. scholars "the military doesn't appreciate Daniel's intellectual enthusiasm" angst -- that's a popular one. Or the angsty "Daniel's lost everyone he's ever loved" theme. And Daniel was turned into a consort, but you didn't put him in some shortie negligee
more's the pity.Maybe don't read any more Stargate fic, so you can avoid infecting your precious brain. 'Cause after you finish off the WIPs, I'd be psyched if you did more. *grin*
Re: Cliches
Date: 2005-08-23 11:20 pm (UTC)I've always thought frottage was a great way for a couple of straight guys to get started. They can keep their clothes on, or mostly on, it can happen sort of by accident. Also good for Jack and Danny because they can get away with it more easily if they are getting it on on the sly. Lots of factors coming together for this pairing to get lots of friction burns! *snickers* Ha, ha! You blamed my LOTRIPS training - but I believe you will find frottage in at least two of my stories... :p
The soldiers v. scholars conflict is weaker, especially considering that the show is very scholar-friendly. It's mostly Jack who's not, and that's mostly for show.
Laughed already at the fact that they went out for Chinese in Hammurabi's Code. I commented to CJ somewhere that I was annoyed how this story turned to food!porn. Breakfast. Dinner. More dinner... The show kinda steers you that way, though. I think it's because they live at the SGC half the time. They have to eat, don't they?
Ah. Aliens made them do it. Heh. Literally, in my case. Something Stargate does so creatively, though, don't you think? :) And I am eventually going to end up in both the infirmary and the briefing room. *sigh* But
alasno negligee in sight!!! For Daniel OR Jack...I think I've had a breakthrough on Possession and hope to finish it up in the next couple of days. I don't know if it will manage to linger on in the occassional thought or PWP, but I stand by my statement that I can't write this pair. I can read them, which is why
Just not buying it... More's the pity. But that means revivification of a WIP or two! So whoo hoo!
Re: Cliches
Date: 2005-08-24 01:15 am (UTC)Re: frottage: Point taken. But if I read one more time one of the guys thinking/saying he's come in his pants like a 17-year-old... Seriously, what is it about 17 versus 16 -- or 13 ( a more likely example, I would think)?

Yeah, the point of the show is generally that Daniel's the hero -- that the military mindset is wrong/limited. But even when Jack or Gen. Hammond are with him (Jack did complain "Daaaaniel" a lot at the start), NID or politics or whatever conspire to devalue Daniel's opinion. The character the show has created for dramatic tension is square peg/round hole, which is not so fun when you're the one who's the peg. Angst ahoy! I like Possession, because it's basically about two friends in a horrible situation, without most of the baggage fanon ascribes to them.
But
alasno negligee in sight!!! For Daniel OR Jack...But does Jack get to keep his badass black leather pants? *drool*
Yay! for finishing! And I'll read any PWPs ya write for these two. Guess they'll be taking place on missions, huh. Fine by me. *pervy grin* And a big *whoop!* for the WIPs!

CK, OMG -- look at this thread! One year, ten months, and seventeen days! *head desk* We were such SG-1 newbies! I didn't even have a J/D icon yet! That's how long cliche!fic has been around!
Zats -- this comment will become clear in about 24 hours. :-)
