So, [livejournal.com profile] amise said this.

Which is a totally defendable interpretation of Mr. Goa'uld's behavior. Plus, she's being Black Adder. Plus, she has been making me giggle incessently for days with her "cunning plan" comments.

So why do I feel the need to defend my snake?! Someone please give me the brain-ectomy now!

The deal is, this goa'uld is doing what he said he would do. He's trying to do the Tok'ra thing, and let Jack remain an independent entity. In so doing, he's absorbing Jack and Jack's emotions and thoughts. The precedent I'm using here is Sam's experience with Jolinar. They were only blended for a few days, yet Sam still feels a deep attraction to, possibly even love for, Jolinar's old boyfriend and his host and has a strange, unexpected, though somewhat hazy, understanding of Tokra behavior.

So I'm thinking, here's this poor goa'uld. He's been handpicking compatible hosts for a couple thousand years. He's been blending with only willing hosts for longer than that. And he decides he's going to try to take Jack, of all people, as a host against his will. And it turns out to be more than he bargained for in many ways.

Jack is used to command. Jack has something going on, I'm not sure what, in his head with Daniel. Jack has responsibilites and history. It all hits this goa'uld like a ton of bricks, just when the goa'uld himself is in a very vulnerable place, taking a new host after hundreds of years. Not to mention after decades in an infirm body.

So his original plan really is to offer Jack the same kind of relationship the Tokra offer their hosts, with Daniel as a lifetime companion to sweeten the deal.

And he ends up in a different place, fighting someone for whom the Tokra-host relationship is unacceptable, and finding himself unable to separate Jack's emotions from his own.

So where he ends up is getting nothing from Jack but misery, and falling for Daniel, who clearly doesn't want him.

Any questions?

[livejournal.com profile] amise, I would like to clarify, right now, that this post was in no way *directed* at you. It is merely *inspired* by you, as in:

Lord, help me, Brain, she understands, dammit, she was just mocking the snake. Would you please go back to finishing the client billing, now. Thank you.

You all may now return to your regularly scheduled, personal insanity.

End transmission.

Eek! :)

...if the qoa'uld had to keep Jack's mind around...

I dunno. Non-Tokra goa'udl say that "nothing of the host remains." But we know from Sha're and Skarra's experiences that they were still concious within the combined entity and that their goa'ulds were able to access their memories, at least, because their goa'ulds recognized members of SG-1...

RE: Daniel getting screwed, I think this is sorta where things have gotten away from Mr. Goa'uld. He thought Jack and Daniel would be working this out between themselves, and maybe got the wrong end of the stick about how easy that would be, but I don't think he planned to be running the show in that relationship. But he's a snake. What can you do?

Daniel is probably the first consort he's had in years who didn't worship him, too. If he had a consort that was groomed to serve him, none of his urges would be a problem.

This is all a giant one-two punch of not-wanted-ness that the goa'uld didn't expect.

I agree with your naming post. If would be helpful for the goa'uld to have a name. It would strengthen the feeling of his identity crisis.

I do understand the goa'uld's problem. You've done a very good job of showing it without making it into some torrid romantic shtick. I just have zero sympathy for it.

P.S. If I promise to be good, can the Beanie of the evil ways come out to play? *puppy eyes*

You want me to write evil Beanie? *squints* Or just more Throw Away?

I'm not good at writing evil. God knows why, as I see the nasty side of people every day.

But look. Even my goa'uld didn't MEAN to be MEAN. You know?

Yeah, I know. I bet it was pretty horrifying when he realized that he was being a meanie.

O.K., maybe I do feel a little bit of sympathy for him. He has an image of himself as a good goa'uld, different from his rivals. Now, he's finding out he really does have the capacity to be a monster. That would screw with anyone who has a conscious, which he clearly has.

Personally, I think you do evil very well. Your villains are all three diamensional beings with understandable motivations.

I still don't think I can do it to Beanie...

Jumping in to say I'm not sure I want to see you do evil Beanie either! Cunning, clever, snarky, pushy, clueless, obnoxious, -- fine. But evil...? Naw.
