In other new fandom news

1. My (first ever!) bid on e-bay was successful, so by Wednesday (or so) I will have four more Iron Man titles to go with Civil War and Iron Man: Civil War. It does make one ponder, does it not, the meaning of life, the age of 41, the gender of female, and the power of a bunch of pretty actors in a silly, special-effects-heavy summer action flick. *ponders* Mainly I wanted Extremis and Execute Program, but they came in a lot with Enter the Mandarin and something else, title is escaping me. But I am philosophical. The future is clearly this fandom and me acquiring a bunch more, so what the heck? (AG33 is enjoying them, too.)
2. I was reading The Snow Queen to The Barbarian tonight, and it seemed very clear to me that I should write it with Tony as Kay and Steve as Gerda. ONe does remember this is how Beauty came about, right? Me reading this same book to The Barbarian, except Beauty and the Beast. *sigh* The main thing preventing me wandering off in search of a Cap/Iron Man Big Bang, or something equally ridiculous, is that I don't have enough fandom chops to assign parts to the other necessary characters. Like there should be a witch in the cherry orchard, and a prince and princess, and the robber girl, and the wise woman, and the reindeer and of course, the Snow Queen herself. But doesn't it seem obvious that Tony's heart would be turned to ice and he would be trying fruitlessly to assemble the pieces of the frozen lake to spell Eternity until Steve's tears thawed his heart again? Yes. It does. Just nod along and agree with the crazy woman.

Date: 2012-07-31 03:32 pm (UTC)I am scared to read Civil War because from what I've read it is sad and might make me angry when what I really want is the kind of happiness that the films give me.
I have done the lazy (though it's really the my-brain-is-busy-writing-a-thesis and the I-don't-have-any-money-to-spare-no-really-not-any) thing and kicked off with reading the odd bit of fanfic. (Though I have secured a promise from a friend that I can ransack her bloke's comic collection since he is a Marvel fan. I'm not sure if he's agreed to this. Or whether she thinks it matters whether he does or not.)
All that being said, I haven't had a rummage around eBay yet. Hmm.

Date: 2012-07-31 03:56 pm (UTC)It is likely that if you start reading fanfic, you will be completely spoiled for Civil War, and eventually it will be unscary, because you will know the content. Maybe the best approach is to find some Civil War "fixits" to read first. :) I have already rec'd a bunch in this journal, though I probably didn't identify them as such. And of course,
I will say that I was impressed with the art in Civil War.
If you want ALL the Civil War content, you will definitely want to frighten your friend's bloke and start opening all his acid-free bags. Because if you put together a cart at Amazon with all the Civil War relevant titles, you're going to spend well over $100 USD - I can't remember how much exactly, maybe way more - and that is crazy. I will say that if you are willing to futz with the individual comics, there was a complete set of the Extremis story arc (I think 44 individual comics?) on Ebay last week for $31 or so, I think. So you can definitey find stuff there that's affordable.
I would have been more than happy to just be a movie fan, but there is so much awesome fanfic that goes back to the comics as source material. And I've been *loving* the high quality of the fanfic. I've been sucked in. What can I say, except - beware! If you go out there reading the good stuff, you may be sucked in, too!
