SOS Two

OK, the homeless piece started writing itself yesterday, so that will definitely be SOS Two, though I was quite surprised at the amount of interest there was out there in the MPREG. I think that even if it doesn't make the SOS deadline, it will have to be my next big project. I added 1200 words to the homeless piece this morning, bringing the grand total to about 1300 words of story (my header is about 200 words, so even though my counter says 1500, I know better). So 1/20th of the way to two entries.

The ghost story has been stuck for a week or so. About 17,500 on that one, but those words have been to Beta 1, who has mostly approved them. I am thinking that I need to write either more Teal'c back story or more Teal'c/Sam or possibly both to flesh the story out. I feel pretty happy with the Jack/Daniel component of it that is already written, and while I might be able to write more haunting, I like what is there. Anyway, that one is in good shape, and I think I will come back to it after I really sink my teeth into the homeless piece.

Anything I *must* read as good research material? Also, any interest/time to possibly beta? (And I reread Scarification this weekend and STILL love it. Speaking of bulletproof kinks. :) )

I'm ignorant enough about the ways of the world that it took me by surprise when people told me that shelters were horrible and to be avoided at almost any cost. So I'm interested in background material, if you know any. I don't want to over do it, as Daniel won't be homeless for long, and Jack has found a way to be homeless without being on the street, as it were. But an important early setting is a shelter where they meet over a meal and where a there's a priest who helps Daniel out at the beginning, so I'd like to be able to feel like I get it right.

For me, when I was thinking about this and talking to you early on, it seemed unlikely to me that Daniel would *stay* homeless long, even under the worst of circumstances. Assuming he really *is* fluent in 23 languages, right there is a skill that is worth a buttload of money in a major metro area, if you can pull your act together enough to be presentable for an interview.

Jack has a lot of potential issues, depending how you want to approach his character, but after talking about it with you and Zats, if I want to keep him plausible as a potential part of a future Stargate program, then I have to write Jack as essentially homeless by choice, and that Jack woudln't put up with lice. Seriously. He'd find another way.
