2009 started out rough for me as a writer. I was feeling very anxious about real life, and in November 2008, I believe I actually decided on a moratorium on writing. This extended through January, though I did write a short piece in mid January. True to my SAD-afflicted self, I was more ready to write as the days got longer and warmer, and by May, I was ready to celebrate MMOM in style. Several fun things, including my favorite, The Limited Range of the GHL Mark 0001, and also Jack's rebuttal after The Pink Elephant with the Purple Spots (which [personal profile] sid pointed out is very nearly GEN PORN!!! :D

I am mostly happy with the quality of product I write these days, but sometimes feel that all my stories are the same. Or very same-y. So it probably shouldn't surprise me that my personal favorites this year are my two big AU adventures, Local Angel, and the immediate follow-on, August, and Everything After. Only the first one was song-fic, which I generally loathe, but this summer for some reason 70's country songs were eating my brain this summer, and you're just damned lucky that you didn't get some seriously irritating Jack/Sam. Seriously. I hesitated to reveal my horrible affliction, but I do feel that Local Angel is one of my favorite things I have ever written.

The second AU was, of course, Inland Sea, which burst into my brain, and was written in record time, with minimal drama. [personal profile] lokei did a yeoman's job, reading drafts, none less than 15,000 words, no less than FOUR TIMES!!!! [personal profile] zats_clear suggested I should call this piece fin!fic (similar to wing!fic, but when the character is less like an angel or bird of prey and more like, well, a fish) or hydropunk, and hydropunk was the one that worked for me, what with the post-post-apocalyptic landscape and whatnot. This was a new growth moment for me, too. This may be my most purely writing experience since Arena (LOTR RPS). The writing was primary for me on this. Once I threw it out into the big sea of fan fic, I wasn't too worried about it anymore. This was an interesting lesson for the feedback whore, though. Published as a long, finished piece, this story got relatively little response – I suspect because either it was too long for most people to tackle, or because they copied it away, read it in other venues, and did not come back the entry. If I had done it in chapters, I feel confident it would have been more of an ego massage. Less to me, the writer – write it all, but put it out weekly. :D

In other writing news, I finished two long-standing WIPs. If you recall, way back in 2005, I wrote a little phone sex piece titled What to Do? in which Jack's opening volley is to ask Daniel if they are dating? The phone call ends with a proposed dinner date. I finally delivered the goods, Always Finish with Chocolate (or The Mummy Returns) (2/2). And I wrote the final two chapters of Bright, Rich, Sweet, which was first posted in March 2008.

I didn't go to great lengths to put in ratings or warnings or pairings in the story descriptions below. Check the headers of the stories before you read. I'm pretty sure they are all J/D unless noted.

Yeah, right! Your "moratorium" puts me to shame! *grin* (Some of us are genuine slackers, y'know... my health issues aside. LOL!)
Seriously, you've put out some work, kiddo. And, (thank you very much) given me a nice new list of fics to catch up on! Squeee!

AND... you finally finished "Bright, Rich, Sweet"? Whoo-hoo! I think I wrote, nagging you, to finish that... a long time ago. *grin* (Hey, it was an interesting fic and I hate being left hangin'! *g*)

Anyways, thrilled that you're so prolific and can't wait to catch up on all the good stuff I see here!

(Oh... and songfic? In my rant/conversation with stagnation_13, about SGU, I said that the song by Bonnie Tyler "Holdin' Out for a Hero" kept runnin' through my head. *grin* But, alas... I don't write songfic or make vids. Although, that'd make a really good one, with scenes of the SG boys, doin' their heroic stunts. Like Daniel, jumping in front of the staff blast, etc. *sigh* Alas, not my forte. *g*)

You know I'll be callin' on you eventually, right? Let me get some of these WIPs back up and running, so I can get your opinion (if you have time, of course). See? Lookin' at this list, I feel like I've got to get my butt in gear! *grin* You're good for my work ethic! Hug, hug!

P.S. Just finished "Bright, Rich, Sweet"...

I remember when I first read this, as a WIP... I think I wrote, begging you to come back to it! *grin* I'm SOOO glad that you did! Just love the way it turned out. I reread the first couple of chapters and enjoyed it just as much as the first time around. The new bits are brilliant.
Vamp fics are just fun, aren't they? Can't help but love 'em. And, after all, who could resist Daniel as a nummy treat? Seriously... *woof!*
Way to go, baby!
