I am playing with some ideas about a piece where Daniel is recovered by the SGC after a long isolation. The idea that has been going through my head most is capture by a goa'uld. But I thought of a semi-ascension like Orlin's - isolated, or maybe stuck on Abydos, though the Abydos solution is at odds with canon, so it would have to be a slight AU scenario, probably. Or descended, but that happened in canon, so maybe descended in isolation, but with his memories intact? I also thought about a continuation of Willful (too lazy to do the double link edit - just go to my index page in whatever journal system your reading this), but from Daniel's POV, maybe starting with his departure form Iya's laboratory?

Anyway, am thinking these thoughts and wondered if anybody out there had any ideas I should put into play. Wanna give me some prompts? Alas, RL is eating every spare moment I have - I guess meaning I HAVE no spare moments - and I haven't written one word in about two weeks, and before that just got in a few scribbles in doctor's waiting rooms for about two weeks prior. So. No promises any of the prompts offered will be turned into anything. But hopefully they will!

fascinating.... well, there's the time he was in the waffle house at the edge of the universe -- we really have no idea how long he was there, and there's a big gap in canon between that ep and Moebius, so if you wanted to stick to canon that would do nicely, I think. also the clue that tantalizes me there is that he apparently got back from that Semi-Ascension (because he was really dead, for sure, when Replicarter stabbed him... at least it looked like it. altho the room with the replicator ankle locks could have been a dream, too, I suppose....) with his memories intact. Which canon underplayed.

What would be the plot line of your scenario? His isolated issues? His finding his place on the team again? Something like those two glories stories about him recovering from a horrific injury in a strange way because of his Ascension Mad Skilz? (All Men Will Be Sailors, orig by syn, remix by raqs)

Happy to help.

How's this for a prompt? " "Who am I?" Daniel may not know, but Jack thinks he does."

*hugs*

thanks for the added info.... and it would be interesting to see how he could be captured while semi-ascended; sounds like an Anubis story to me. *shiver* that's tantalizing.

and yes to examining compelling themes in new stories, like paian does in the Lost City fic....

you're right that something slightly AU would be the way to go....

But I thought it was interesting that the first time he descended his memories had been wiped, but not the second time. the reasons for that fascinate me.

i would be v. interested to see what you spin IRT the est. rel. after an experience like that for Daniel. good luck!

happy to help. i'm at work and someone who made an appointment stood me up, so here i am!

yeah, the contrasts between the two descensions fascinate me. i don't think we ever get in canon a definitive look at why his memories were suppressed the first time.

the second time clearly the others helped send him back, because oma was gone, and i think they indeed did it as a gesture. perhaps out of gratitude to oma, who delivered them from a difficult situation vis a vis anubis... kind of like a covert op, you know? they didn't have to admit they did it and yet they were glad it happened -- oma taking on anubis on her own, kind of as morgan did adria later. but i digress.

but isolation per se, and the H/C or PTSD components of same, would, in a different situation entirely, affect his reunion with Jack. and his conception of himself. I'm thinking of green grrl's fabulous fic Scarification here.

Of course, all good fic should be read and reread constantly, if only there were enough hours in the day. lol

In reading your discussion with pog, it makes me wonder - if you write from Daniel's POV, would you expect him to be a reliable or unreliable narrator?

I would think Willful!Daniel might be a quite unreliable narrator. But that kind of thing is never clear to me until I actually start writing. I am not quite the craftswoman to plan ahead for that level of complexity.

So after all the chatter yesterday, I hit on what I believe to be exactly the perfect scenario for my wandering thought processes. Fits in canon at an appropriate spot for the level of relationship I want them to have before Daniel gets lost. Gives Daniel an appropriate period of separation. Now all I have to do is decide how far along I want them to be in their developing est rel before the separation. It was unwinding in my head this morning, though. Does that happen to you, too? When a story clicks, does your Brain start to play it out for you almost on it's own?
