Yesterday, I laughed my ass off over this sequence of stories at [livejournal.com profile] mckay_sheppard. You will want to scan down the comments, too, as there is HILARIOUS stuff down there.

Greetings, by [livejournal.com profile] geeklite.

I was cruising the friends page yesterday and started hitting these on [livejournal.com profile] mckay_sheppard. I was practically crying laughing. When I finished my friends page, I went back to the top, and there was something there I had read past the first time. A post by a person asking people to leave feedback in their journal if her writing annoys you.

It was the person who posts the sub-drabbles. *facepalm*

Apparently, this person annoys several comm members by posting frequently.

It's really sad, because I thought the whole thing was awesome and hilarious, and yet as things developed I realized what I had not known at the beginning which was that it was clearly targeted at this poor writer. In the post in the writers journal more than one person said they had almost left the community because of her "frequent" posting. Someone counted. She has posted 67 times in 58 days. Slightly more than once per day. And this was so difficult for these people that they might have to leave the community. I suppose to be fair, the person may have posted three or four on some days, then skipped days. Not sure.

Anyway, my reaction was 1) too bad something so neat and funny and well done had to turn out to be a mean personal attack. All the links to these posts got deleted by the mods, which while I actually agree with that action for the sake of community standards, I think is really incredibly sad because I laughed til I cried; and 2) I want to say that instead of attacking this frequent poster of tiny little fics, which actually, the ones I have read, are usually very good, I wanted to reply, why can't we attack the people who *infrequently* post CRAP? Gah. There's enough bad writing over at [livejournal.com profile] mckay_sheppard. If we could make the crap writers stop, we could let this little person keep going! Again, out of fairness, several people squawked, No! It's not your writing we object to! It's having it announced too often! Yeah. Well. Like I said. Slightly more than one post per day seems to me like one of those things a reasonable person ought to be able to take in stride.

Anyway, the mods are planning a poll to the members about post length and frequency. Which seems like a mature way to handle it, since as they point out the commuinty has 2000 members. It's a large enough group to be able to give feedback in an impersonal manner. I'll be interested to see if I am in the majority or minority on this.

I had similar experience with the drabbles - they are really funny, but I once I realized the point, it made me uncomfortable. Personally, I feel that it's either a) a mod's issue (Is this okay within the community? If it's not, deal with it. Maybe suggest a daily/weekly post/update so that the person in question's drabbles are easier to locate.) or b) set up a filter so it doesn't show on your default flist.

But I didn't feel like I could make a good judgement call, considering I get plenty of my McShep fix from everywhere else that I'm not a member of the comm. Still, I've seen similar issues crop up (people complaining of frequent posters, although usually it's their own LJs) and I didn't quite get it then, either. I feel like I'm missing something important here - why not just scan past it?

I thought they were great, and immediately started thinking up examples of ones I could write. I figured it was like those terribly precious chefs who distill food down to its molecular essence and then hand you a syringe with your meal.
