And I quote, "The newly tinted windows of his gruck..."

After being distracted by, count them, THREE different variations of essentially the same underlying story about cuddling (yes, yes, there will be a series), Tetradon has used its tiny powers to ressurect the vampire story. Heh. I said ressurect. 6200 words or so and counting. I've got 20 pages already in Word, another five dense handwritten ones (typing them next after this post, hopefully with more accuracy than the above sample), and then about 10 minutes on the voice recorder.

*pets Tetradon*

Though I should say, Tetradon made me miss my usual exit this afternoon. No biggie. I only recently started using this exit, so my distracted brain just forgot and I reverted back to my old route. Still, one has to be concerned that maybe Tetradon is not the best idea for anything but the staightest of straight-of-way's.

Speaking of, Husband was reading about intelligence without sentience, and how you trick yourself into thinking that you consciously direct actions that in fact your body and brain sort of take on their own. He described the conscious mind as sort of the pointy haired boss of your brain, slowing everybody else down and preventing them from getting important work done, or at least making them do it a lot less efficiently. He later decided that a better analogy was to the Secretary at a meeting. The Secretary might only take the minutes, but later the minutes are the only way to tell what happened at the meeting. But it was too late. The pointy haired boss analogy will stick with me forever, and make me feel slightly guilty about how the rest of the Brain thinks of me. *scuffs shoe*

Anyway, Tetradon seems to help illustrate my non-sentient intelligence.

And you just took a non-porn trip through my Brain. It is a scary, scary place to live.

Ah, yes, Mental Auto-Pilot. The moment you *think* about it, you're screwed. Rather than the pointy-haired boss, I prefer thinking of Consciousness as The Project Manager. A good project manager assigns tasks and walks away, knowing they'll be done right. Once the job's done, or if something's going wrong, PM either reviews and approves or takes a hand to get things back on track... but it doesn't speed up until PM has walked away again.

Which is why all that drilling we did in typing class means we can't think of how to spell "the" while we're typing it unless we want to screw things up. :-)

Project Manager. Another good analogy. Ah. And fast typing. Intelligence without sentience. Excellent everyday example.

I wish I could remember who it was who wrote that book on the seven types of intelligence. The typing (and to some extent the driving and so on) is an example of Kinesthetic intelligence. All that physical stuff we do every day without thinking. Athletes, dancers, soldiers, doctors, pilots, all these folks have very specialized 'reactions' that have been drilled into them so they can do them without thinking.

The conscious mind is a lazy beast and wants nothing more than to have someone else do all the work. :-)

I haven't read any of this stuff, but according to what Husband said, I think it might be more than just drilled reactions. Apparently a lot of voluntary movement, where we think we consciously decided to do something, is initiated by the brain long before the conscious thought. I don't know enough about any of this, but anyway, sentient me is feeling v. glum about the whole thing. :D

I'd be interested in reading about that. I find this stuff fascinating.

Don't let Sentient You get down in the dumps. Think of it this way! You've got "people for that". :-) Leaves you free to do the cool stuff. :-)
