After a little while of watching LJ Toys, a few things stand out.

I am amazed at how many people come and read Possession. It is an unusual day when at least one person doesn't blast through the whole thing. It is quite common to see two or three readers a day.

And I hadn't really thought about it, but Adjustments doesn't get the same love. So either somebody influential has rec'd Possession somewhere, so people are coming to Possession from somewhere besides my own index page, or people are at the index page and look at the description fo Adjustments, and say no way, Jose! :D

Of course, plenty of people come in and graze off the main index page. Which is cool. Even more cool, it is common for a person to come and stay awhile, chomping down eight or ten stories in a sitting.

I definitely see readership up on stories that get rec'd or mentioned around on stargate_search.

The Brain takes hits from 24 people a day, approximately, after I exclude my two locations. That's consistant over time. It goes up on days I post new fic and on days that I get a rec or something, but on days when the Brain is just sitting there, minding it's own business, it gets vistiors. That's kinda cool.

Did you get the paid LJ Toys, or are you doing all the figuring out?

I haven't put Toys in my older fics, so I don't know if they're getting hits or not. I've only put them in my new stories, and watched the parabola of readership peak and trail off on each.

I've recced both Adjustments and Possession in several places, but I think I've recced Possession more often. And while occasionally people say, "Where's all the genderbend?" and others chime in with, "Oh, YEAH!," I think Aliens Made Them Do It is a far more widespread kink.

I'm sure you are right about AMTDI v. genderbending. It just amuses me. Wait til I actually finish your MPREG epic! I can't wait to see the hits THAT gets! :D

Well, like genderbending, I think there's a small but passionate audience for mpreg. I think Possession will still beat it over time, but it will be interesting to see how many hits you get on first post!

Oh. And I do not have a paid account, though I'd love one. Then I could put names on all my story addresses. It would be awesome! But nope, just sweeping through the P*s every day looking at the webaddresses. I know the rough sequence that is Possession, because so many people do that one. I also know my index page. And a few of the other sequences. Totally cool - somebody read Arena the other day, which I can easily recognize because it starts in the 300s. :)

I don't pay attention to my stats enough to keep track of what URLs are what, except when something first posts. I am lazy about my Toys! Cool that the numbers have sunk in for you.

and how did the various IP addresses get labeled? thought for sure it must be you with a paid acct...

The IP addresses can be labeled by anyone. So I have named myself CK at Work, CK at Home. Other people have labeled themselves. Apparently, LJ Toys will also label IP addresses it thinks it has guessed. For instance, if somebody hits a bug from a friends page, LJ Toys can detect that, and assumes that the person is hitting from their own friends page and will temporarily associate that IP address with that LJ user - maybe even permanently.

What you need a paid account for is to label a particular POST. So I can't go to Grains of Sand and go into LJ Toys and name that web address Grains of Sand. If I could, instead of a P*, I would get Grains of Sand. And then I could pull up a history of hits on Grains of Sand, if I wanted. That's the paid feature that would make paying worthwhile. Then I could just open the readers page and see what everybody was reading. Now, I have to look at the numerical addresses of the posts and either click over to them, or recognize them because I've learned what they are.
