brainofck: (Spell Check)

I want the Arabic equivalent of Daddy. "Ab" appears to be "father." I'll use that if I get stuck with it, but I'm wondering if that's what a little kid calls his Daddy, or if there's something more affectionate and less formal, like in English. Anybody know? And if there's anybody out there who could do the Egyptian variant, that would be EVEN MORE AWESOME, like anybody will know but still cool! :D

Maybe [livejournal.com profile] emosweet could help? She's a Sam/Jack artist who lives in Egypt.

Looking forward, with some fear and trembling, to starting Skeletal Remains soon. :-)

Thanks! (I would tell you not to be afraid. But that wouldn't be fair. :D )

You know, I looked high and low this morning. That'll teach me not to go straight to Wiki... Thanks!

I actually went straight to Google, knowing that Abba is supposed to be Aramaic. And from there -- as usual -- Wiki.

I was a kindergarten teacher when I live in Saudi Arabia, and the children used to call their daddies 'baba.'

Here's a question for you. :) I want to include a tiny piece of Arabic baby talk. Like, in English, a toddler just learning to talk will say "ba!" and it may mean bottle, or ball, or bye, depending on the kid, but it means *something.* I know you had kindergardeners, not preschoolers, but any suggestions of simple words like that in Arabic?

I am not an Arabic speaker, the children in my care all spoke some English, and their parents wanted them to learn more. However, my husband still works in Saudi, and he works with some Saudis. I will be speaking to him tonight, I will ask if he is willing to ask the men he works with, what their little children say.

I will let you know one way or another soonest.

Hugs, Susie.

Thank you (and him!) so, so much! Because I've picked up the word now in Spanish and Russian, if there's a baby talk word for pacifier, I'd be particularly interested.
