Well, I have decided that exercise is vital to my mental health, so tonight, I spent what would have been writing time on Skeletal Remains doing Arms and Abs of Steel 2000. :(

On the upside, over the last week of not writing Sam's demise, I came to a realization.

I had originally planned one death for Sam and Daniel together. But that was just totally not working. So then I came up with a different idea, with Sam dying one way and Daniel dying later.

But as Sam was waiting her turn at my schedule, I started thinking, both of these deaths are so predictable. Of the "He only had one week left til retirement!" type variety.

Then I was also worried about Sam's death, which, while totally realistic and believable, also totally gypped her character and the Jack/Sam story line (for which I started to feel guilty because one person reading is a Jack/Sam shipper). I felt like Sam dying that way basically made this a Jack/Daniel story.

Still, I was going to go with it. It's slash. It's porn. It's stupid fanfiction. It's a hobby not high art. Don't belabor it.

But then, Jack got involved.

Jack started having a major guilt trip over Sam's death. He started blaming himself. He started getting all depressed and Daniel started getting completely pissed with him. The plot was complicated in new, depressing, non-porn-producing ways.

And that was the final straw.

So now, I'm going back to something resembling my original plan. It strengthens the Sam/Jack plot. It strengthens Sam's character development. It takes some of the cliched predictability out of the plot. It prevents Jack from bringing us all down. In all, a much better and more cheerful approach.

So. Everybody cross your fingers that Little Sister sleeps in tomorrow! :D

don't you love it when the characters take over the story? it's always best to do what they want, I find.

:).

hang in there. and I'm not primarily a jack/sam person but you know i'll happily read that, too.

Well, it's Sam/Jack/Daniel the way both of us tend to write them - Jack in the middle. But killing off Sam too early obviously makes that not possible...

Woo Hoo. Me is going to like this, cause I so hate it when they die. And Jack not ending up with Daniel works for me (to me that sounds wrong just writing it down lol) :D

Hugs to you and good luck with the story (and Jack ha ha)!

Well, in the interest of full disclosure, I really am working on trying to make this a true OT3. Though with me, OT3 usually works out in practice as Sam/Jack/Daniel - with the emphasis on Jack being the middle. Still, if I was doing that, then killing Sam off early in the story by default would lead to a Jack/Daniel result. So.

Yes. Jack was really doing a nosedive on the whole thing. Couldn't let that happen. :D
