OK, check this out, Stargate people.

So contrary to what I usually see in fan fiction, this source states that Daniel has three doctorates.

I was actually checking because most of the fan fiction I've read has him with two doctorates and a masters.

So if I were to refer to him as "PhD, PhD, PhD," nobody's going to get it, are they? It'll just be distracting. Yet if I do the two PhD thing, then it'll be wrong, and other people will be annoyed.

Thoughts?

I mean, besides "What a geek!"

Over the past nine years, Daniel might have completed a dissertation to allow the awarding of a doctorate in anthropology as well. Or perhaps he has one doctorate in philology/linguistics and another in archeology/anthropology. (Shen says only: "And Doctor Daniel Jackson. Ph.D. in Archaeology, Anthropology, and Philology.")

I know. I fret over these things, too.

Usually Wiki is so good on these things, but I think there's a couple of stretches with that entry.

Is it Daniel or Jack or Hammond saying PhD PhD PhD? Because anyone else might not necessarily have it exactly right, and it wouldn't be that big a deal.

I have a good two PhD joke I want to use in genderfuck fic, but it's season 9, when he really might have three. I don't care -- using it!

If it's for comic effect, go for it. But I don't believe it is necessary to write out each advanced degree if they are the same degree type - academic convention would list him as Dr. Daniel Jackson, PhD (Archaeology, Anthropology, and Philology), unless it was in a publication from a university he attended, in which case they might give his most advanced title but only name the degree he earned from them.

I was surprised myself to find out he had three. I always believed he had two and a Masters. Heh. As to whether or not what is said in The Scourge is accurate, I dunno, but I like your thoughts on this. *g*

What I so love about that link is they included the midwifery. Daniel has delivered three babies now, hasn't he? *g*
