SPOILERS for the movie, the show, and various fan fic.
Part TWO of CK's Guide to Stargate for People Who Have Forgotten It or Never Saw It
Finished the movie today after all.
Not much more to report, actually. Most of the little details relevant to stories I've seen actually occurred in those first 30 minutes or so.
Actually, what struck me more in the remainder of the movie was the difference in how Daniel is portrayed between the show and the film and Jack's relationship with Skarra.
Show Daniel has a certain assertiveness that movie Daniel lacks. Daniel in the movie is not lacking in confidence. It's more like he's in his own little world. He's more reserved and much softer-spoken - James Spader murmurs through most of the film.
The boy who plays Skarra has that beautiful androgeny they like to find for the goa'uld hosts. In the movie, it seems to me that the slashy chemistry is much more between him and Jack than between Jack and Daniel. And I *know* that the filmmakers are trying to set up a son-substitute for Jack, but Skarra is too mature for that to really work. He's a man-child 16-17, not a boy of 10 or 11 who you would see as Jack's new son. Combine his age with his beauty and his obvious admiration of Jack, and you start to get very, very slashy vibes.
Daniel and Shau're are a sweet, pretty couple. This could also be part of the lost slashiness in the J/D relationship. Not to mention that Jack is almost a complete non-entity in the film. I love Kurt Russell. I mentioned earlier that I have seen sex, lies, and videotape probably 20 times. I may have seen Big Trouble in Little China, one of my favorite movies ever, 40 times! Too bad Big Trouble Jack couldn't be Stargate Jack. *snickers* Kurt had little or nothing to do in this thing. Too bad.
My only other comment is how sad, sad, sad I was that they blew Jaye Davidson away. Good Lord, he's beautiful. And his ha'tak, as pointed out by

And that's pretty much it! Enjoyed it, but still miss Jack. :)
