Yes, I already had the same thought you had that he doesn't think of himself by any name.
Still... I'm writing it with George just to try it out. But I may fall back to your position in the end. I think you are right and that's what's causing my problem, but I think I am right that it's weird to write a tight POV from his perspective and still refer to him as General.
Might try a rewrite with him as simply Hammond. *ponders*
