Tetradon cucutia

brainofckFirst, I had an Archos MP3 Jukebox that my brother gave me because he never liked its file interface and he got something better. Right around that time, we saw a documentary on the giant squid, AKA Architeuthis dux. And the Archos had a name.
I loved Architeuthis so much. He sat on my desk at work every day and played through my speakers. He had 20GB of space. He was my best friend. And he probably drove Cellmate nearly insane, as I played the same music over and over and over. :D
Then, Architeuthis began to die. Plus, I wanted a place to carry my fiction around.
So after much research and agonizing I went to Costco and got a 120GB WD Passport. It is 4 times bigger than our home harddrive. It now has all the our music, all my pictures, and all my text files on it and it is only about 20% full.
I love my portable hard drive.
And it is so huge, it could eat Architeuthis for breakfast.
I named her Physeter macrocephalus - the sperm whale.
However...
I wanted to be able to port my yoga routines outside. I went poking around for a real MP3 player, and discovered the Sansa flash drive players.
For Christmas, I got a Sandisk c250. 2GB, he's sooooo tiny (1"x4"), but with a microSD slot, so expandable to many times his current capacity.
I have named him Tetradon cutcutia, because he's a tiny puffer fish! (Plus, the scientific name for seahorse is Hippocampus this, and Hippocampus that. Pfft.)
Why, you ask, am I posting this here in my fiction journal, rather than Ye Olde Real Life Journal? How does this impact me, the average Stargate slash porn reader.
Because, Gentle Reader, Tetradon has a voice recorder.
I tried him out in the car today. I can tell you that writing by speaking is definitely going to be a learned skill. For one thing, imagine toodling along on your way to work saying, oh, "The grunting and whining of Carter and Teal'c rutting was driving Jack crazy. He didn't bother with the complexities of fucking his little dancing boy, just pulled out his hard on and started rubbing it under the skirt, Daniel's sweat and his own precum more than enough lubricant" out loud. Yeah. You get my point, I'm sure.
So anyway, I worked a little on the vampire piece in the car today. Gonna try transcribing it and see what happens.
I am hopeful that this will help increase the rate of writing, if I can just type it up and not have to compose at the computer screen.

UPDATE: Cool! I can hear my car doing stuff in the background. Like I got quiet for a really long time, and I could hear the turn signal. I think that was when I was going around the clover leaf and merging, at which point I put down the smut recorder and concentrated on driving, as a responsible citizen would. I can hear the car accelerating. Huh. Next time I have car trouble, I can record the noise and play it back for the mechanic! :D
UPDATE II: This works remarkably well. I am used to transcribing from a dictaphone, where I have pedals to control the recording. But I type almost fast enough to keep up with myself, and when I can't, I just hit pause, and resume when I'm caught up. This could be a seriously helpful tool if I can learn to compose this way.
