And at any rate, I didn't mean that this would've been the typical realspace reaction, but rather that it'd be the typical fanfic reaction. We're dealing with heavy-duty fantasy here and the fact that our characters' reactions don't much resemble what our own would be in reality, or even the fact that many of the character types we consider hot and squeeful are actually guys on whom we'd slam the door if they ever came calling, has absolutely nothing to do with how much we enjoy the stories. :D
