This is me too lazy to log in as the other me. Bill the Pony is a FAB writer of pre-quest Shire stuff. Plus, the only Frodo/Aragorn thing I would ever rec. Somebody linked me on my whine in Finders...

Stop! That is a different Bill the Pony! Here's the Bill I know and love! (http://www.west-of-the-moon.net/servlet/SlashStoryListing?authorID=67) I particularly recommend Foolish Games, Ringspell (non-con, essentially aliens made them do it), Forelithe 1482. The Making of Samwise Gamgee has some really excellent parts, though it is long and not totally my thing.
