Canon question about where the Replicators come from

I will research this myself, but I'm on the run and thought I would ask the hive mind, as sometimes that is a lot faster. :)

Where do the Replicators come from? Does Thor offer an explanation of this? I know that Reese can make them, but was she the original creator of the ones that eventually infested the Asgard's galaxy?

Also, who made Reese? Was she an Anient creation?

All I know is that the explanation for the Replicators was elaborated upon in Atlantis canon, and it went well beyond Rees and that the Ancients were definitely involved. Happy researching.

They were a toy Reese created to play with (I think it's explained in Menace) that went out of control.

All I remember about Reese was that she was an Android made by some guy, but she wasn't an Ancient creation.

yes, but there was a bunch more added to their back story later. It went way beyond Rees. But most of that info was on the Atlantis side of canon. It turned out the Replicators were Ancient in origin.
