Oh, the ending is just haunting and beautiful. All the things that show the passage of time, and that perfect final sentence.

I enjoyed the entire story, start to finish. At first I thought there would be a fourth act resolution that would take them all safely home, but by the time the story reached the point where Jack volunteered to test the drug, I knew that wouldn't fit the tone of the story. I'm glad you went the way you did, and sad, sad, sad for everything that they, and Teal'c, lost. I hope the pack had lots of splendid hunting and humping to make up for it. :-)
